On a hiking trip with friends, Jo prays that Mike will fall in love with her, and that a little adventure will change her dull life. She doesn’t know about the creatures dwelling in this forest or that someone in her circle has a hidden identity. Something awful and amazing is about to happen to Jo. Her prayers just might get answered, but her life, and heart, will never be the same.
This eerily quiet forest shimmers in the summer sunlight. It's the perfect romantic venue, but oddly void of life—except for one variety.
When the sun goes down, Jo meets the creatures that rule these woods. Trapped by darkness, fighting to live, she finds herself drawn to an unusual guy. He may be their only hope of survival, but his true identity will crush her heart.
Sunlight is a fast-paced tale of a one girl's faith and the price of true love.

You can't really tell from the description what this story is about. If you're curious to know before you download it (as I was), I'm going to tell you. A group of friends go hiking and are attacked by bloodthirsty zombie vampires with rotting flesh and a horrible smell. But unknown to them, they have in their midst a mysterious hero whose identity I guessed less than halfway through the book. (And boy, was it tedious waiting for him to come clean. It's like reading a mystery and figuring out who the killer is, then having to suffer through all the author's futile bunny trails until the detective finally catches on.)And now I'm going to spoil his identity because this is where I have a problem with the story. If you don't want to know, stop reading now.
Vampires are mythology. Angels are not. Though angels appear in human form many times in the Bible, nowhere does it suggest they're subject to the same passions as us. Nowhere does it support angels being able to procreate or fall in love. In fact, Jesus says just the opposite. Angels don't marry (Mark 12:25). 'Jesus replied, “Marriage is for people here on earth."' (Luke 20:34) There are plenty of false religions that support the angel romance genre, but the Bible does not. An angel's purpose is to glorify and serve God, and an angel acting on his own isn't an angel. An angel acting on his own is a demon, and there's no Biblical evidence anywhere of any demon ever repenting. If the author had made Galen a reformed vampire or some other mythological creature, I'd have been cool with that. But when Galen tells Jo he rebelled against God and repented and has been banished to earth to make up for it, Haynes is going somewhere the Bible doesn't go.
Also, the suggestion that these rotting monsters are seductive and can actually have sex violated my suspension of belief. Up till then I'd been thinking of recommending this book to someone, but when a vampire tries to rape Jo... No, just. No.

Great book love their faith
In God. Would like to see more books like this. It's very interesting, I couldn't put it down.
Great book, but small Grammer errors make reading slightly confusing at times here and there. If you're interested in books like this, it is worth the read through. The book will keep you entertained.
This was a pretty good read. The story line kept you wanting to read more. We should all be so lucky as to find someone to love and who loves us like the main characters do in this book. Can't wait to read the next book in this series!
I hate instant love. It's the tool of a lazy writer who wants to create a love affair where none exists without doing any work. This ruined the whole book for me. I felt no connection between Galen and Jo whatsoever which is why it felt so wrong. I felt a big one between her and Mike. Her rejection of Mike after loving him and being jealous of Red so long makes no sense whatsoever and made me intensely dislike her as a fickle and selfish person overcome by lust. Jo's refusal to look at why she is doing this also rings wrong like a cracked bell.
It made Jo a cardboard figure and no longer a real sympathetic person
It's too bad the writer focused on Jo alone and not Red who was fighting her own battle against damnation. Some angel Galen was as he couldn't even save Red from being taken by the vampires. He was letting her be taken and turned.
It's too bad because until the instant love I was enjoying this story. I will probably not buy the second if the Jo/Galen affair continues.
Great storyline and kept me guessing too the end who galen was......love all the characters and vampires ( using them as evil forces try attack and read this book in 2 nights...can't wait for book 2!!!
This new author did a great job of building suspense and keeping me coming back to read more! She seems to be knowledgeable about how young people's minds and feelings work. I'll look forward to the next book!
I started then stopped reading this book. After reading several others I came back and couldn't remember why I stopped. As I continued to read I couldn't discern the story and the weirdness of the characters until it became clear to me what was happening. I then skipped more to the end to see what happened to the characters. I don't believe in the subject presented and chose not to read endless pages trying to convince me otherwise.
